Students will complete preparation activities in the five areas of the HiSET® exam; writing, literature, science, math and social studies. The curriculum in this class is catered towards the individuals needs. Students are given the opportunity to work at their own pace. Must be 17 years old.
College & career
Learn the tools and strategies needed to succeed in college and career! Students will gain important skills that include communication, critical thinking, time management and problem solving. Participants will become familiar with the UMAINE system and community colleges as they clarify their personal values, goals and expectations. This is a UMA 3 credit course.
We work with the Academy for Medical Professionals to offer National Certification in the medical field. We also work with TECHHIRE to provide students with IT certification. Check out our career tab to find online business certificates.
Reading & writing skills
Need to improve your reading and writing skills to return to college or to complete your high school diploma? Course content includes comprehension, vocabulary, and implementing good reading practices.
Need to improve your math skills to return to college or to complete your high school diploma? Course content includes basic math, arithmetic, algebra, and qualitative reasoning instruction and is individualized to each student. Students will also learn test taking strategies and study skills.
Brush up on your skills before heading back to college and improve your Accuplacer scores to avoid expensive remedial classes (that don’t count toward your degree). The Accuplacer tests help colleges make accurate course placement decisions and set students up for success.

Come join our small group of students working to increase language proficiency in everyday conversation, pronunciation, grammar and writing. Along with this course, our small computer lab has Rosetta Stone© software for those looking for independent studies.
The right job can enrich your life, whereas the wrong job can drain you mentally, physically and spiritually; it is critical to find your own unique, satisfying place in the world of work. We can help you explore your career choices by matching what you are interested in with careers, potentials, and satisfaction indicators.
This year our program has added over 20 new courses. These range from certificate classes to computer training. There are classes for all adults and are sure to spark interest! Check out the new online enrichment classes we have offered this semester under the courses tab.
These academic courses are free and open to the public. Based on class size and needs, class time may be adapted or changed. Contact our office if you have any questions about when classes are. For academic courses, per state funding requirements, we must do an assessment of each student using CASAS at enrollment and again prior to course completion, with some exceptions. To enroll in any of our academic courses contact our office to schedule an initial appointment.
